Mom & Me Music Class with Mr. Kelvin Rocks!

Drawing from his 15+ years of teaching experience in this field, Mr. Kelvin has developed and honed an interactive musical program for Pre-K children and their parents/caregivers.

Each class follows the same set pattern of activities, we begin with a shaky egg warm up and sing “Hello” to everyone followed by an introductory song with the eggs. Next we get up and have a dance with colourful rainbow scarves and then sit back down for a drum circle song. After the drums we reach a crescendo with an assortment of percussive instruments and rock out! We end each class with a “cool down” lullaby and the big rainbow parachute.

Each class is given a theme, (ranging from musical “movement” like “High and Low”, “Fast and Slow”, to imaginative themes like “Space” and “Home”), and songs are plugged in to fit the theme and activity.

Each class is 45 minutes long and I have 20 weeks of classes that run continuously, i.e. when we reach week 20 we return to the beginning again.

The things that set this program apart are:

Song choices – The majority of my material is selected from “grown up” music. A wide ranging repertoire drawing from appropriate popular songs of the last century or so.

There are two main reasons for this choice.

One, it allows Mr. Kelvin to introduce more complex material into the class. Children’s music is very simple, (major keys, 4/4 time signatures, etc), but, at this crucial developmental stage , kid’s brains benefit greatly from being exposed to more complex music.

Two, parent/caregiver participation is one of the main drivers of a successful, fun class. His songs really get the adults involved and invested, which directly correlates to the child’s participation. The aim, and repertoire, is designed to get you dancing and engaging with your child to your favorite songs just like you would in your living room at home!

The energy – Mr. Kelvin derives such fulfillment from making music with little humans, it’s contagious! The classes are high energy and joyful occasions for children and adults alike and everybody contributes to the music and the energy. It’s a Positive Feedback Loop!

As we strive to build a community of artists, artisans, makers and creators, our vision has always been to curate events that showcase our talented members.

For this month’s event, we’re going with a bit more of an “end-of-summer party” vibe. DJ Lash will be here to keep things upbeat, and we’ll have complimentary snacks and beverages, as always (pizza, chips and dips + beer and wine, etc). Please join us on September 4th from 6pm to 9pm (or later???)

Featuered artists to be announced!

This is a free event, but we graciously request donations that will be split amongst our featured artists.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (August 29, 2022) – Pennbrook Partners announced today the grand opening of Kirkbride Arts x Apartments on Saturday, September 24th, from 3 pm-8 pm at Thompson & Buckius Streets in the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia. The open house celebration will feature artists and creative vendors, live local music, including the eclectic energetic boogie of Johnny Showcase & The Mystic Ticket, fuzzy psychedelic blues from St. James & The Apostles, the earthy folky-stomp of Citizen Riot, and more. Kirkbride Arts x Apartments is a destination for creative professionals of all types that not only contains a variety of modern living options, but also combines artist studios, office, and event spaces. The campus will serve as a hub for its residents to live, make and thrive.

The site of Kirkbride Arts is a longstanding landmark within the Bridesburg community dating back to 1860. The grounds had previously been home to All Saints Catholic Church with an accompanying elementary school. While these beautiful building structures designed by renowned architect Edwin Forrest Durang remain, they’ve been transformed to house a creative community. Preserving historical buildings and repurposing existing infrastructure whenever possible is a core value for real estate veterans, Pennbrook Partners.

“Reinventing this space while keeping certain historical aspects intact is something that we’re very proud of,” says Matt Semola, Co-founder of Pennbrook Partners. “Above all else, we recognized the opportunity to cultivate a creative epicenter in a one of a kind environment.”

The Bridesburg neighborhood, the northernmost “river ward” in Philadelphia, is a section of the city quickly on the rise. As development expands beyond Fishtown into neighborhoods such as Port Richmond and Kensington, Bridesburg is naturally emerging as an adjacent destination. Only minutes from these highly valued areas, it has easy access to I-95 and into South Jersey via the Betsy Ross and Tacony Palmyra bridges.
